First Lieutenant Kenneth S. Nadrah Class of 2007

					Distinguished Flying Cross

United States Army

Distinguished Flying Cross
Citation

For heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty: First Lieutenant Nadrah distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as aircraft commander of a UH-1D helicopter engaged in a combat operation in support of friendly infantry. On the first insertion into the landing zone, the flight came under intense enemy fire from three sides. The landing zone was a pineapple field, with the luscious fruit growing from dikes. He calmly landed on top of the dike, deftly balancing his ship while the troops disembarked. After returning to the staging area for the second lift, the flight was ordered to shut down and examine combat damage. His ship had taken numerous hits, yet his indomitable ardor for battle would not allow him to desist from returning to the fray. On the second insertion, several enemy rounds went through his windshield, sending plexiglass fragments flying through the cockpit. He nevertheless guided his ship to the top of a dike and balanced while the troops disembarked. His courage, perseverance and matchless flying skill contributed immeasurably to the success of the mission. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
