Specialist Four Teddy W. Keller Class of 2006

					Distinguished Flying Cross

United States Army

Bronze Star with "V" Device
Citation

For heroism not involving participation in aerial flight, in connection with military operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam: On 20 October 1969, Specialist Keller was serving with his unit at a night ambush position north of Fire Support Base Oklahoma. When it was learned that the battalion commander’s helicopter had been shot down and the crew was engaged with an enemy force and needed reinforcement, Specialist Keller joined the rescue unit. Nearing the contact site, Specialist Keller disregarded his personal safety as he ran through the hostile fire to reach the stranded crew. Reaching the downed crew, Specialist Keller aided in establishing a defensive perimeter and placed devastating suppressive fire upon the insurgents to gain fire superiority and force the aggressors to flee. His courageous initiative and exemplary professionalism significantly contributed to the success of the rescue mission. Specialist Four Keller’s outstanding display of aggressiveness, devotion to duty, and personal bravery is in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Infantry Division and the United States Army.
