Sergeant Frank E. Kocinski, 147th Engineer Combat Battalion, United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy on 6 June 1944, in France. Numerous snipers occupying the hills overlooking the beach were inflicting casualties upon Sergeant Kocinski's battalion as it was clearing obstacles from the beach. Sergeant Kocinski volunteered to assault a tunnel which was held by those snipers. With two men he crawled under enemy fire until they were close enough to throw hand grenades. They assaulted the tunnel with hand grenades and destroyed the enemy snipers. The personal bravery and valor displayed by Sergeant Kocinski reflects great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered military service from Ohio.
