Specialist Four Marvin Collins Class of 2010

United States Marines

Army Commendation Medal with "V" Device

For heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Four Collins distinguished himself by valorous action on 7 November 1969 while serving with Company E, 2nd Battalion (Airmobile), 5th Cavalry during an enemy attack on Fire Support Base Ike, Republic of Vietnam. When his unit came under intense rocket, mortar, and ground attack from a determined enemy force, Specialist Four Collins was in a mortar pit where he began placing accurate fire on known enemy positions in spite of the rounds impacting all around him. His display of personal bravery and devotion to duty is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
