Private First Class Eugene F. Wood Class of 2009

Bronze Star

United States Army

Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device
Citation

For heroism in connection with military actions involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam: Private First Class Wood distinguished himself by valorous actions in 10 January 1968, while serving as a Rifleman with Company C, 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division. While moving to the aid of another company which was in contact with the enemy, Private Wood's company came under intense machine gun, automatic weapons and small arms fire from fortifications in a nearby wood line. Seeing a fellow soldier fall wounded in the open rice paddy between his position and the wood line, Private Wood immediately crawled forward to treat him, directly in the line of fire of an enemy machine gun. While giving medical aid with complete disregard for his own personal safety, Private Wood received multiple wounds from a burst of machine gun fire. Private First Class Wood's personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Infantry Division and the United States Army.
