Henry Lawless, 35240397, Private First Class (then Private), Company B, 26th Infantry. For heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Laasphe, Germany, 30 March 1945. When his platoon was checked by an intense enemy machine-gun, automatic-weapons, and small-arms barrage, Private Lawless courageously moved across perilous terrain to an exposed vantage point and, with accurate fire, compelled numerous hostile troops to surrender, thereby enabling comrades to proceed to more advantageous positions. Private Lawless’ heroic actions and outstanding initiative exemplify the finest traditions of the service. Residence at enlistment: Elmwood Place, Ohio.
