Private First Class Theodore E. George, RA15471007,
Infantry, United States Army, 224th Infantry Regiment, distinguished
himself by heroic achievement near Mandao-Ri, Korea, on 23
and 24 April 1953. Private George, with three of his comrades,
volunteered to man a listening post on a finger one hundred
and twenty-five yards forward of the main line of resistance.
Immediately after assuming command of the post, a seven man
enemy patrol was spotted between the listening post and the
friendly lines. Private GEORGE, calmly waiting in his position,
heard the opening burst of friendly fire and immediately began
spraying the enemy with deadly automatic weapon fire, inflicting
many casualties and forcing them to withdraw. As the enemy
began to retreat, Private GEORGE courageously exposed himself
to enemy observation and fire to throw several hand grenades,
blocking the enemy’s escape route. Private GEORGE’s
accurate fire-power and decisive actions aided greatly in
the success of the encounter and inflicted many casualties
on the enemy. The gallant actions and calm demeanor of Private
GEORGE earned him the admiration and respect of all who knew
him. The heroic actions and dauntless devotion to duty displayed
by Private GEORGE reflect great credit upon himself and the
United States Army. Entered the Federal Service from Ohio. |
