Technical Sergeant Lloyd Hunt Class of 2015

Silver Star Medal

United States Army

Silver Star Medal

Lloyd Hunt, Technical Sergeant, Infantry, United States Army, for gallantry in action on 30 May 1944, in the vicinity of Lanuvio, Italy. After assuming command of his platoon when his platoon leader was wounded, Sgt Hunt and his men ran into perfectly concealed enemy entrenchments firing machine guns, rifle grenades and rifles at a distance of 35 yards. Sgt Hunt, crawling from squad to squad, withdrew his men successfully to the crest of another hill where he organized a base of fire. While traveling between his squads Sgt Hunt spied two enemy snipers and killed them both. Discovering two of his comrades wounded, he administered first aid, and then assisted them to a place of safety, although subjected to the withering enemy in so doing. After having withdrawn his men to make way for friendly artillery concentrations, Sgt Hunt learned of a seriously wounded man left at the last position, and disregarding his own safety, he went forward to aid the wounded man. Upon reaching him, Sgt Hunt saw that the man was dying, and was able to comfort him in his last moments. Sgt Hunt's outstanding courage and his devotion to fellow soldiers reflects high honor on himself and the traditions of the United States Army. Entered military service from Arcanum, Ohio.
