John M. Fackey, Private, United States Marine Corps, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a Silver Star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Fackey distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 67th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2nd Division, American Expeditionary Forces in action at Belleau Woods, France, 6 June 1918, while carrying messages and assisting wounded to shelter under heavy enemy fire. Private Fackey, in the face of this bombardment successfully carried messages to Battalion Headquarters and from the Battalion to the Company Headquarters. In addition, on each trip out he carried a wounded man a distance of at least one quarter of a mile. Private Fackey unquestionably saved the lives of several men.
