Specialist Four Danny D. Bare Class of 2013

Army Commendation Medal with V Device

United States Army

Army Commendation Medal with "V" Device

Specialist Bare distinguished himself by heroism in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam on 30 May 1968 while assigned to Company A, 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry, 199th Light Infantry Brigade. On that date, Specialist Bare was serving as a combat infantryman on a company size search and destroy operation when his unit suddenly came under intense small arms and automatic weapons fire from a well entrenched enemy force of undetermined size. During the initial encounter, the lead element suffered several casualties and became pinned down. Specialist Bare unhesitatingly advanced through the concentrated enemy fire in order to assist his wounded comrades. As he was carrying his wounded comrade to safety, Specialist Bare was wounded by enemy small arms fire. Despite his painful wound, he continued in his valiant efforts until he had moved the wounded soldier to a secure position. By Specialist Bare's valorous actions and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 199th Light Infantry Brigade and the United States Army.
