Sergeant James I. Dady Class of 2012

Silver Star Medal

United States Army

Silver Star Medal

James I. Dady, Sergeant, Headquarters Company, 1st Cavalry Division for gallantry and intrepidity in action on 19 September 1950 while serving as an infantry Squad Leader participating in an operation to take a hill near Waeiguen, Korea. As the order to advance was given the enemy forces were firing intensely from automatic and small arms weapons. Sergeant Dady worked his way through the intense enemy fire to the crest of the hill where he was momentarily surprised by the fact that he had not as yet been wounded while the rest of his unit was pinned down by the withering enemy fire. He immediately recovered and hurled three hand grenades into three enemy machine gun positions, silencing them and killing seven enemy soldiers. Sergeant Dady did not stop advancing until he was subsequently wounded in his ear by an enemy sniper, rendering him unconscious. His gallant action was instrumental in the subsequent success of his unit's mission to take the hill and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit. the First Cavalry Division and the United States Army.

Entered the military service from Ohio.
