Corporal GOERGE A. HEINEKAMP JR, Signal Corps, United States Army. For meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy on Okinawa, P.I., on 3 May 1945. Corporal HEINEKAMP was a radio operator in an air liaison party. On the night of 3 May 1945 the Command Post was subjected to devastating artillery and mortar barrage by the enemy. About midnight a shell burst wounded Corporal HEINEKAMP, his supervising officer and all the men in his party. With complete disregard for his own wound Corporal HEINEKAMP went to the aid of his comrades and treated their injuries while still under fire. He led them safely to the aid station and not until then were his own serious wounds cared for. He was evacuated when daylight came. His unselfish loyalty to his comrades, and calmness under fire, reflected great credit upon himself and his organization.
