Sergeant Donald F. Wehrman, Infantry, Army of the United States, a member of Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, distinguished himself by gallantry in action on 27 July 1951 in the vicinity of Teausan, Korea. On that date Company B was under heavy enemy fire while attacking strongly fortified enemy positions. Due to overwhelming odds, the unit was forced to withdraw. While doing so, Sergeant Wehrman observed an officer of another unit, completely exposed to enemy observation and fire, and unable to move due to a serious wound. He voluntarily advanced to the wounded officer’s position and though under intense enemy fire, with the aid of his men improvised a litter and carried the officer to safety. Sergeant Wehrman immediately returned to his unit and formed an effective perimeter of defense. The gallantry and devotion to duty and comrades displayed by Sergeant Wehrman reflect great credit upon himself and the military service. Entered the military service from Ohio.
