Sergeant Terry A. Cordle Class of 2009

Silver Star Medal

United States Army

Silver Star Medal
Citation

Cordle, Terry A., Sergeant United States Army, Company H, (Ranger), 75th Infantry (airmobile). For gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Sergeant Cordle distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 8 January 1971 in the Republic of Vietnam. While on a long range reconnaissance patrol, Sergeant Cordle's team came under intense hostile fire from several different directions. Directing his men into a hasty defensive perimeter, Sergeant Cordle immediately called in aerial artillery on the enemy positions only meters from his own position. His courageous efforts and professional tactics were instrumental in the successful evasion of his team from the much larger enemy force and their consequent defeat due to the directed aerial artillery. Sergeant Cordle's gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
