Specialist Four Todd A. Handy Class of 2005

Army Commendation Medal

United States Army

Army Commendation Medal with "V" Device
Citation

For heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Four Handy distinguished himself by heroism in action on 31 October 1967, while serving as a rifleman with Company C, 1st Battalion (Mechanized), 50th Infantry during a night perimeter defense near Quang Nhiem, Republic of Vietnam. When his unit came under intense hostile fire, Specialist Four Handy exposed himself to the enemy fire as he placed oppressive fire on the assaulting hostile force. His action contributed greatly to the successful repulsion of the enemy attack. Specialist Four Handy’s display of personal bravery is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
