Citation

For heroism while participating in aerial flight in the Republic of Vietnam.

Specialist Four Lawson distinguished himself on 14 April 1971 while serving as a door gunner on a medical evacuation helicopter. Specialist Four Lawhorn skillfully assisted his pilot by guiding him down through the dense jungle to the pick-up site. When the aircraft was exposed to intense enemy fire, Specialist Four Lawhorn delivered suppressive fire on the insurgent positions. While returning to the fire support base, Specialist Four Lawhorn assisted in giving aid to the wounded. Through his courage and determination, he contributed immeasurably to the success of the mission. Specialist Four Lawhorn's heroic actions were characterized by a great concern for the welfare of his comrades. Specialist Four Lawhorn's heroic actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
