First Sergeant George P. Terhanko Class of 2005

Army Silver Star

United States Army

SILVER STAR
Citation

First Sergeant George P. Terhanko, 35585715, Infantry, 331st Infantry, United States Army, for gallantry in action and disregard for personal safety displayed on 10 December 1944, in Germany. While approaching a small town, First Sergeant Terhanko’s unit came under intense artillery and enemy tank fire which caused the unit to become disorganized. Recognizing that the unit was short of officers and needed leadership, and acting with complete disregard for his own safety, First Sergeant Terhanko took command of a group of soldiers and rallied them to attack the town. His immediate actions were responsible for the capture of a portion of the town allowing the unit to continue it mission. His actions reflect the highest credit upon himself, his unit and the armed forces of the United States. Entered service from Ohio.
