Captain Frank D. Forestiere Class of 2005

					Distinguished Flying Cross

United States Army

Distinguished Flying Cross
Citation

For heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Forestiere distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 21 April 1968, while serving as door gunner of an armed UH-1C helicopter during a search and rescue mission near Da Nang, Republic of Vietnam. Upon locating a downed aircraft which was surrounded by enemy soldiers, Captain Forestiere’s aircraft provided suppressive cover fire for two rescue helicopters, but after receiving minor damage the rescue helicopter left. Captain Forestiere provided necessary cover fire for the downed crew. His display of personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
