Citation

Radarman Third Class George Bobb distinguished himself while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in armed conflict against the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong communist aggressors in the Republic of Vietnam. On 26 February 1969, Inshore Patrol Craft 44, with Petty Officer Bobb as forward lookout and M-60 machine gunner, was proceeding up the Cua Lon River on a Sea Lords operation with two other Inshore Patrol Craft. At the mouth of the river, Petty Officer Bobb detected two sampans with five occupants attempting to cross. The five suspects jumped into the water to evade, but were quickly captured. Petty Officer Bobb was instrumental in relaying accurate information to his Officer in Charge, while directing the Inshore Patrol Craft toward the evading personnel. During the capture, his boat received a rocket hit close aboard blowing his weapon away and wounding him. Despite his wound and, with complete disregard for his own personal safety, he immediately retrieved his weapon and directed accurate suppressive fire at the enemy positions. Petty Officer Bobb's courage under fire, outstanding professionalism and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
