For exceptional achievement with valor while performing duties as a Military Police Gunner of an ambushed patrol on April 9, 2004. In the vicinity of Baghdad, Iraq, Specialist Zimmerman’s patrol began receiving a heavy volume of enemy AK-47, machine gun, RPG and mortar fire. Specialist Zimmerman immediately returned accurate and deadly M249 fire protecting the lives of those around him with little concern for his own safety. His actions and bravery reflect great credit upon himself, the 16th Military Police Brigade (Airborne), and the United States Army.
