For heroism in connection with military actions involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam: Private First Class McAllister distinguishing himself by valorous actions on the afternoon of 29 April 1968, while serving as a Squad Leader with Company B, 2nd Battalion, 60th Infantry Division, on a movement to contact mission near My Tho, Vietnam. When his company came under intense fire from a well-entrenched and numerically rushed to the most forward element to provide additional firepower. Upon hearing that his commanding officer had been wounded, Private McAllister crawled over 100 meters under heavy fire to pull the officer and his dead radiotelephone operator, and two other mortally wounded soldiers, back to a secure position. Private First Class McAllister’s personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Infantry Division and the United States Army.
