For gallantry in action on 14 December 1944, Private Marinelli volunteered to place a Bangalore torpedo across a road at a point where our forces had established a road block.
Although he knew that two men had been killed in earlier attempts to accomplish this mission, he crawled forward, in the face of the enemy machine gun and sniper fire, and successfully placed the torpedo. While returning from the mission, he was killed by enemy machine gun fire. Private Marinelli, by his gallant action, insured the road block and denied access to the road to the enemy.
Aurelio J. Marinelli was born in and entered the service from
Warren, Ohio.
