For gallantry in action: Warrant Officer Zorger distinguished himself by heroic actions on 25 February 1969, while serving as an aircraft commander with D Troop, 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Zorger was ordered to provide illumination for Fire Support Base Diamond which was under an intense hostile attack. Arriving over the area of contact, Warrant Officer Zorger came under intense hostile fire. With complete disregard for his own safety, Warrant Officer Zorger continuously exposed himself as he placed effective illumination over the hostile positions, allowing the gunships to place effective fire on the insurgents. Although Warrant Officer Zorger had to navigate using his instruments. He remained over the area of contact, providing illumination. His valorous actions contributed immeasurably to the success of the mission and the defeat of the hostile force. Warrant Officer Zorger’s personal bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division and the United States Army.
