For distinguishing himself by heroic and meritorious conduct while serving aboard the LCI (N) 226 in eight landings against the enemy in the Southwest Pacific Area including: Cape Gloucester, New Britain; Hollandia, New Guinea; Biek, New Guinea; Horotai Halmahera; Lingayen Gulf, Luzon, P. I.; Xambales Province Luzon, P. I.; Mariveles Harbor, Luzon P. I.; and Corregidor Island P. I. from 26 December 1943 through 16 February 1945. His conduct throughout distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.
