For exceptional valor during conflict with an armed enemy. Specialist Grzebyk distinguished himself by displaying heroism under fire on 27 July 2013 while serving as a machine gunner during Operation Berserker Thunder in the village of Padkhvab-e-Shaneh (PKS), Logar Province, Afghanistan. Initially part of the overwatch for his platoon, Specialist Grzebyk’s element began taking effective PKM and RPG fire from the village shortly after arriving in position. Specialist Grzebyk exposed himself multiple times during enemy contact to give cover to an assault element. Upon his return to the platoon observation post he was found to have several bullet holes in his uniform, yet was not wounded. Specialist Grzebyk’s heroic actions and extraordinary devotion to his fellow soldiers, despite his personal safety, are in keeping with the finest traditions of the warrior profession and reflect great credit upon himself, Task Force Baler, Task Force Vanguard, and the United States Army.
