Staff Sergeant Justin A. Orr

For exceptionally valorous achievement in action against an armed vehicle while serving as a sniper and scout squad leader during operation Iraqi Freedom on
10 February 2006.

Staff Sergeant Orr’s team observed four anti-Iraqi forces emplacing two large improvised explosive devices in the path of United States Forces. He engaged the hostile fighters with a sniper-initiated ambush, killing one and pinning down the remaining ones behind their vehicles. Moments later, he and his team were engaged from multiple directions with automatic weapons fire, as additional anti-Iraqi force fighters were waiting as part of a complex ambush.

Staff Sergeant Orr moved the rear of the hide site with the Squad Automatic Gunner to engage the additional enemy combatants, where he engaged the hostiles,
killing one and allowing time for his SAW gunner to establish contact and destroy the anti-Iraqi forces’ vehicle and kill the driver.

To establish communication, he led the way to an exposed side of the building that allowed the Radioman to contact the Tactical Operations Center. Both Soldiers immediately came under automatic weapons fire from an elevated position. Seeing no way to ensure his Radioman was able to make communication with higher headquarters, Staff Sergeant Orr then moved to an exposed position and returned fire, killing the enemy machine gunner.

Staff Sergeant Orr’s personal courage and bravery under fire is in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon him, the 327th Infantry Regiment, and the United States Army.

Justin Orr achieved the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8) when discharged from active duty. He was born in Cincinnati, his home of record at time of entry was Loveland, Warren County, Ohio.
