Private First Class Edwin C. Martin, Infantry, United States Army,
a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry division, distinguished himself by heroic achievement of 11 August 1950 near Yongsan, Korea.
On the night of that date the enemy had infiltrated under cover of darkness, to within a short distance of his company’s defensive position, and was subjecting the area to heavy machine gun fire.
Private Martin obtained a rocket launcher and fearlessly advanced to an exposed position from where he succeeded in destroying the hostile machine gun. He continued to place fire upon other enemy positions until he was wounded by enemy fire. The heroism displayed by Private Martin reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
Private First Class Martin was mortally wounded (KIA) in action about three weeks later on 31 August 1950, and posthumously promoted to Corporal.
Edwin C. Martin was born in Morning Sun, Preble County, Ohio and entered the service from Cincinnati. Edwin C. Martin’s remains were repatriated in September 2025, and were interred in a ceremony on September 27, 2025 in Cincinnati.
