For heroism in connection with ground operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam.

Sergeant Webster distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 13 May 1970 while serving with Headquarters and headquarters Company, 11th Infantry Brigade. On that date, a friendly helicopter crashed in an enemy-infested area near the city of Mo Duc, seriously injuring all of the crew members. Reacting immediately and with complete disregard for his personal safety, Sergeant Webster unhesitatingly moved into the burning wreckage to rescue the crew members. Ignoring the danger of exploding ammunition and fuel, he ripped the doors from the cockpit and removed the Aircraft Commander and the Pilot. Despite the continued threat of an explosion and the extreme heat emanating from the aircraft, he again approached the helicopter and was successful in dragging the two remaining crewmen from the ship. Sergeant Webster refused to seek cover until he was assured of the evacuation of his comrades. Through his timely and courageous actions, he contributed greatly in saving the lives of his fellow soldiers. Sergeant Webster’s personal heroism, professional competence and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Americal Division, and the United States Army.

Mr. Webster was born in, entered the service and currently resides in Dayton, Ohio.
