Heroic Achievement as Mortar Section leader, Weapons Platoon, Company L, 3d Battalion, 25th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 2, 2d Marine division, 2d Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 03-05 and 04-06 from 16 March to 22 April 2005 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.

On 3 April, while securing a bridgehead during Operation Outer Banks, Sergeant Rozanski’s unit came under rocket propelled grenade and small arms fire. Manning a MK-19 automatic grenade launcher, he engaged with suppressive fire, killing an insurgent, and repelling the attack. The following night, he supported his section while they effectively illuminated the battlefield, allowing his platoon to destroy the enemy’s fighting positions and eliminated 47 insurgents.

Sergeant Rozanski’s initiative, courage and devotion to duty reflected credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.

Now a Captain in the Ohio Army National Guard, Alex Rozanski was born in Columbus. His home of record upon entry into the service was Dublin, Ohio and currently resides in Marysville, Union County, Ohio. Captain Rozanski is a Gold Star family member. His brother, Ohio Army National Guard Captain Nicholas Rozanski was killed in Afghanistan in 2012.
