Wayne Williams, Private, Company A, 16th Infantry.
For gallantry in action in the vicinity of Colleville-sur-Mer,
Normandy, France, 6 June 1944.
When his company’s advance was halted by several aprons of barbed wire under enemy machine-gun fire, Private Williams voluntarily advanced and, with the aid of a Bangalore torpedo, caused a breach in the entanglements. Then, with unflinching bravery, he led the assault on enemy fortifications and distinguished himself by his presence of mind and fearlessness.
Residence at enlistment: Waverly, Ohio.
