By the direction of the President, under the provisions of Congress, a Silver Star is awarded by the Commanding General, United States Army Forces in the South Pacific area, to the following-named enlisted man:

ELBERT R. RAWLINS, Private First Class, Infantry, United States Army, for gallantry in action at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands while participating in an extremely hazardous and important patrol to the rear of hostile lines to obtain vital information concerning the enemy’s strength and positions, and during which nine Japanese were killed and one captured from 21 to 30 November 1942.

Rawlins was born in London, Madison County, Ohio.
