The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918 takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Cook John Wrobbel (ASN: 92481), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Supply Company, 166th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Force, in the Champagne Sector, France, July 15-18, 1918. During the heaviest bombardment, Cook Wrobbel regularly supplied hot meals to his men. On July 16 his kitchen was almost demolished by shell bursts and a large number of rations destroyed, but he remained at his post after all assistants had sought places of safety.
