2023 // Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device

1st Lieutenant Roger A. Leasure

(2nd Oak Leaf Cluster)  For heroism in ground combat against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam on 17 May 1969.  Lieutenant Leasure distinguished himself while serving as a platoon leader in Company A, 1st Battalion 506th Infantry, in the A Shau Valley, Company A was moving through mountainous terrain when it made contact with well-entrenched enemy soldiers on top of Dong Ap Bia Mountain.  Lieutenant Leasure maneuvered his platoon toward the enemy’s flank.  In the ensuing battle, he repeatedly moved through the enemy fire in order to lead his men in an assault against the enemy bunkers.  He continuously set the example for his men, directing them to the rear or top of each bunker to avoid enemy fire, and then destroying the position with grenades.  With complete disregard for his own safety, he charged one enemy bunker and tossed a grenade into it, silencing both occupants and completely destroying the bunker.  His sound tactical judgement and aggressive leadership were the deciding factors in the forced withdrawal of the enemy soldiers.  Lieutenant Leasure’s personal bravery and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
