2022 // Navy Commendation with “V”

Lawrence Salisbury

For heroic achievement while serving at United States Naval Support Activity Detachment, Advance Tactical Support Base, Ca Mau, engaged in armed conflict against the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong communist aggressors in the Republic of Vietnam.  On 3 February 1971, the base came under enemy mortar and small arms fire.  Several of the mortar rounds fell short and started fires in the hamlet directly across the Ganh Hao River.  After helping to suppress enemy fire, Fireman Salisbury volunteered to cross the river and help put out fires burning in several huts in the village.  He participated in extinguishing the fires in three huts and prevented the spread of the blaze and destruction of the hamlet.  Fireman Salisbury’s exemplary professionalism, devotion to duty and courage reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The Combat Distinguishing Device is authorized.
