For heroic achievement as a pilot of jet aircraft while attached to Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron ONE THIRTY-FIVE, Detachment One embarked on USS KITTY-HAWK (CVA-68).  On 16 April 1972, Lieutenant DODDS flew electronic counter-measures cover for and ALPHA strike in the Haiphong area of North Vietnam.  Through expert skill and electronic warfare analysis, he positioned his aircraft in a high threat environment providing the best possible protection for the strike aircraft.  Maximum jamming was employed against the multiple threat emitters during the strike and all aircraft returned safely off target.

Lieutenant DODDS’ flying ability, courage, and devotion to duty reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
