Specialist Four Franklin D. Moore distinguished himself by exceptional heroism in connection with ground operations against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam on 28 January 1969 while assigned to Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 3d Infantry and attached to Company B, 199th Light Infantry Brigade. On that date, Specialist Moore was serving as a medical aidman on a platoon ambush when it came in contact with a large enemy force, wounding many of its members, including himself. Disregarding his own safety, Specialist Moore moved about the ambush site rendering first aid until he was unable to give any more assistance. Specialist Moore’s decisive actions and outstanding professionalism saved the lives of at least two individuals and gave comfort to many others until they were medically evacuated. Specialist Four Moore’s valorous actions and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 199th Light Infantry Brigade and the United States Army.
