Captain Larry N. Fealy distinguished himself by gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force near Thanh Hoa, North Vietnam, on the night of 31 May 1966. On that date, Captain Fealy flew an unarmed night reconnaissance mission in marginal weather conditions to obtain vital intelligence of communication lines near the Thanh Hoa complex, With complete disregard for his personal safety, Captain Fealy pursued this mission into a most heavily defended area and successfully evaded three surface-to-air missiles to accomplish his photographic objective. This courageous and aggressive pursuit directly resulted in photographic evidence that led to destroying this vital target by friendly strike aircraft. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Fealy has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
