For exceptionally valorous achievement as a platoon leader and ground force commander for a joint task force in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. On 23 October 2008, Captain Kelvington’s leadership and demeanor under fire enabled the platoon to eliminate a key threat. His command and control of the platoon was decisive to the mission’s success and exemplifies the highest standards expected for Ranger leaders in combat. Through his distinctive accomplishments, Captain Kelvington reflected great credit upon himself, this command, and the United States Army.
Michael R. Kelvington has achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel and serves as the Department Chair and Professor of Military Science and Leadership at the Ohio State University. He was born in and entered the service from Akron, Ohio. Lt. Colonel Kelvington also received the Army Commendation Medal with “V” device.
