Bronze Star Medal w/"V" Device

For heroism in ground combat against an armed enemy force not involving aerial flight in the city of Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic on 4 May 1965. Staff Sergeant Kenneth L. Davenport while serving as a Squad Leader with Company B, 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 505th Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division distinguished himself by heroism about 1400 hours on this date when his squad came under heavy rebel fire. After taking cover and returning fire, Staff Sergeant Davenport notice a civilian sitting wounded and stunned across the street from his position. Without any regard for his personal safety he immediately ran across the street under hostile enemy fire to the aid of the civilian. He helped the wounded civilian into a hallway and applied a pressure bandage to the wound. The civilian was later evacuated for medical treatment. Staff Sergeant Davenport's heroic actions were an inspiration to all who observed them and were instrumental in the completion of the mission. They are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
