Private First Class Dale M. Marker Class of 2013

Silver Star Medal

United States Army

Silver Star Medal

Dale M. Marker, Private First Class, Infantry, Company "L", 15th Infantry Regiment, for gallantry in action. At noon on 21 October 1944, near France, Private First Class Marker crossed one-hundred yards of open ground under the direct fire of an enemy tank in order to get into a position on the tank's flank where he could fire his bazooka, a weapon he had only recently been assigned, effectively. Although bullets from the tank's machine gun struck the ground less than a foot away from Private First Class Marker, he remained alone without cover for ten minutes and fired his bazooka until he silenced the tank's gun and caused it to withdraw. Private First Class Marker's gallantry in action and extreme devotion to duty were instrumental in his unit's accomplishment of the mission and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 3rd Infantry Division and the United States Army.
