Lance Corporal Anthony S. Tisler Class of 2012

Navy Commendation

United States Marines

Navy Commendation Medal with "V" Device

For heroic achievement while serving as a Fire Team Leader with Company F, Second Battalion, Twenty-Sixth Marines, Third Marine Division in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. On 7 April 1968, while participating in a search and destroy operation, Company F was assigned to secure Hill 725 near Khe Sanh Combat Base. As the lead element advanced toward the objective, the Marines suddenly came under intense mortar and automatic weapons fire from a large, well entrenched North Vietnamese Army force and sustained numerous casualties. Alertly observing several wounded marines lying in an area exposed to hostile fire, Lance Corporal TISLER unhesitatingly left his covered position to aid the injured men. Fearlessly maneuvering across the fire swept terrain, he reached a casualty and moved him to a helicopter landing zone. Boldly returning to the hazardous area, he ignored the enemy rounds that impacted near him as he resolutely continued to move several other casualties to positions of relative safety and skillfully treat their wounds. His heroic actions and sincere concern for the welfare of his comrades inspired all who observed him and were instrumental in saving the lives of several Marines. By his courage, bold initiative and selfless devotion to duty in the face of extreme personal danger, Lance Corporal TISLER upheld the finest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service. Lance Corporal Tisler is authorized to wear the Combat "V".
