Silver Star Medal

For gallantry in action on 3 January 1945, as an Infantry Scout with Company A, 1st Battalion, 551st Parachute Regiment Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division, during World War II. Private First Class Cicchinelli exposed himself to enemy fire in order to rescue his injured Platoon Sergeant. After noticing that his Platoon Sergeant was wounded by an enemy attack and trapped in the open field, he left his defensive position and went to rescue him. He crawled over an embankment and through barbed wire which put himself in great danger as this left him open to enemy fire. Despite being surrounded by a German tank and several machine gun emplacements, Private First Class Cicchinelli successfully evacuated his wounded comrade to safety. Private First Class Cicchinelli ensured the successful rescue of another Soldier before returning to the fight. Private First Class Cicchinelli actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 82nd Airborne Division and the United States Army.
